Time for Summer!

The air is warm, school is either out or almost over, and summertime is right around the corner.

Meaderies around the nation are already preparing for Mead Day 2018. This day is like any other day. The public may experience bouts of laughter as they see their community members dressed in Renaissance or Viking attire (whichever they associate with drinking mead the most); mead fanatics will travel far and wide to visit a "local" meadery (we are still too few and far between); drinks may be taken from horns and goblets; mead makers and mead enthusiasts may tell tales of past lore when Vikings would drink mead while traveling to battle.

This is Mead Day. Or at least what we may see.

Meaderies in Southern California (aka Southern California Mead Alliance) are teaming up to prepare some of their best meads to share with everyone who steps foot into their doors. Meaderies that you will hopefully get to experience in some way on Mead Day include:

  1. Bronto Mead
  2. Golden Coast Meadery
  3. Honey Pot Meadery
  4. Lost Cause Meadery
  5. Meadiocrity
  6. Mjodhall
  7. Raging Mead
  8. Twisted Horn
Great Society Cider and Mead, located in Long Beach, CA, will be open on Mead Day (August 4th) and offering meads from the above mentioned meaderies for those who just won't be able to travel that much (if you celebrate right, good luck past 3 meaderies!). Otto Radtke is the owner and will happily talk to you about what is on tap.

As for meaderies in the San Diego area, we will all be celebrating the joys of drinking mead and mead making in our ways. Stay tuned to your local media for updates on events near you!
